Litgrid AB has announced international public tender for technical project of the transmission line

The transmission system operator of Lithuania Litgrid AB announced international public tender for preparation of the technical project of transmission line for LitPol Link interconnection. The contractor for the technical project will be known in March 2012. The public tender was announced after the Ministry of Energy of Lithuania approved the special plan for construction of the part of the line of this international power interconnection between Alytus and border with Poland.

“The stage of planning of the international power interconnection between Poland and Lithuania was quick and efficient. The current pace of realization of LitPol Link project shows that Lithuania is fulfilling all the obligations in order to initiate the international power interconnection between Poland and Lithuania at the end of 2015” – said the Minister of Energy, Arvydas Sekmokas.

The next step will be signing of the servitude agreements with the land owners in the regions of Alytus and Lazdijai. 40 percent of the needed agreements have already been signed. “The pace of signing of the servitude agreements shows that the land owners, on whose land the power line will be placed, understand and respect not only the meaning of the LitPol Link project but also of the energy independence (of the country) – said the general director of the Transmission System Operator Litgrid AB, Virgilijus Poderys.

The project of construction of power interconnection LitPol Link will join the transmission grid systems of Lithuanian and Poland, will contribute to the development of common European energy market and will be one of the steps preparing Lithuanian energy transmission system to work in the system of continental Europe. In 2015 the power interconnection between Poland and Lithuania will start working with transfer capacity of 500 MW, and in 2020, after finishing of the second phase of construction of back-to-back converter station, will reach capacity of 1000 MW.

Litgrid AB conducts also a project of construction of international interconnection NordBalt, which together with construction of transmission line 300 kV KlaipÄ—da-Telšiai, will link the systems of Lithuania and Sweden. NordBalt will start to be operational in 2015.
