Energy interconnection
between Lithuania and Poland

Back-to-back station

Alytus power substation will be the main power transmission unit in South Lithuania. Back-to-back station will be build as it is necessary due to the fact that Polish (400kV) and Lithuanian (330kV) power systems operate within different synchronous zones (Poland operates Western European transmission system UCTE and Lithuania - Transmission system IPS/UPS).

One back-to-back station converter (500 MW) might be 170 meters wide and 200 meters long. In order to work on the whole capacity for the Lithuanian-Polish interconnection two converters are needed.
